October Newsletter

When I think about Community, I think about fireworks.  Fireworks are amazing, dynamic and spectacular to enjoy with a group of people. All of those oooos, ohhhhh’s and ahhhhh’s enrich the event.  Watching community fireworks alone is like watching the superbowl alone.  It just isn’t the same.

I think there are a lot of connections with community and fireworks.  It makes sense that fireworks can be such a “wow” when used properly or terribly destructive when improperly done.  The same is true here at Vista.  Community can be a positive or a negative experience depending on how we engage and interact as a community.

Let’s focus on Vista as a community, and how being with a gathering of God’s people is amazing, dynamic and spectacular.  This community is made up of people who are called to use their gifts and talents in many different ways.  Just like the variety of shapes, colors and sizes of fireworks that appear.  We sometimes see a person’s gift as they serve us with physical and spiritual food. It is a real encouragement to receive these gifts from these kinds of people.  We delight and enjoy the way these people are able to use their gifts of hospitality.  We see the effects of the financial support that people are committed to in our facilities and the programs that we can provide for the advancement of the gospel of Jesus Christ.   We see the blessings of the people of Vista as we as a community reach out to our local community and to the world.  So as all these things are going on, what makes Vista a community?  We are a community because of Jesus Christ and His work in, on and through us.  Come and be a part of the community as we live out God’s grace, peace, hope and love to one another.

Vista Prayer Room

The Vista Women's Ministries will be setting up a Prayer Room in the Archives room at the church for the coming year.  The theme for our Year is "If You Love God, You're a "Shoe-In"".

So, in keeping with this theme, we are featuring a different type of shoes every month to help visualize our prayer lives. We invite you to stop by and visit the prayer room any (or many)

times each month.  This is for everyone -- women, men, teens, and children.  October theme is God's Invitation to us to pray, featuring slippers.  The verse for October is "Come to

Me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you Rest".  Matt. 11:28

Parish Care Volunteers Wanted!

Phyllis Peterson recently resigned from coordinating the parish care team.  She has done a wonderful job these last years.  Personally, she has visited lots of you through parish care.  THANK YOU, PHYLLIS!

I was approved at the last deacon board meeting to again be Vista’s Parish Nurse.  I am asking for many volunteers who are willing to visit the elderly, ill, or shut in on a regular basis (at least visit one person - once a month).  Does that sound like something YOU would like to do?  If so, would you contact me.  It would help me out a lot and I guarantee both the person you are visiting and you will be blessed.  It’s just visiting and encouraging the individual.  If you see more needs, just let Pastor Steve or me know and we will follow-up on the concern.  Promise!

NEW!  I am starting a loan closet for medical supplies.  (We cleaned out Ole and Viv’s house.)  Available to loan out at present are: Walker, one point canes, rise for the bathroom stool, hand bar for the bathtub, bedpan, and crutches.  If you have any items that you would like to give for this purpose just call and I will come and pick them up.   The Public Health Nursing Service in Waseca also has an extensive loan closet for nominal cost.

I am personally very willing to visit with anyone about any health concern or someone who would just like some encouraging.  My number one job is to be your advocate to the health community and to our Lord.  I will pray for you and with you.  I do not have all the answers for health issues, but I do have lots of recourses though the county, the Covenant denomination, and lots of nurses in our congregation.  Please call me.

I will also continue to do blood pressure screening quarterly, but if anyone needs monitoring more often, just let me know.  I have the equipment always at church and always at my home.  Just ask!

Send some Vista to DC!!

Martyn O is engaged to Jenn  R.  and they plan to marry Nov. 8. Since they live in Washington DC, it is not possible for them to return to Vista for a bridal shower.  Instead, we will send our love and good wishes to them via a card shower.  (Gift enclosures are entirely optional).
